Collage as metaphor for Collage of Knowledge

Purpose of Collage of Knowledge

The purpose of the Collage of Knowledge is to create an overview of knowledge used when people work together e.g.: Collage of knowledge can be used for:
  1. knowledge management process
  2. sharing knowledge

Gathering information

During our work we search on the internet (or any other way) for information about a certain subject. We find a lot of information from different sources. We evaluate, examine and interpret the information. The information of interest can be discussed with others involved in the work process. In this way knowledge will be created and formalized in new knowledge that is relevant for the work process.

Knowledge conversion

In the book "The Knowledge-Creating Company - How Japanese Companies Create the Dynamics of Innovation" of "Ikujiro Nonaka & Hirotaka Takeuchi" of "Oxford University Press 1995", knowledge conversion is explained. It is the conversion of tacit and explicit knowledge that takes place in social interaction between people. There are 4 possible conversions, see the following image.

Assembling the Collage of Knowledge

All information and knowledge can be put in an overview, a Collage of Knowledge. This Collage of knowledge can be used by people in their work process. The Collage of Knowledge can be checked regularly to determine whether it is still accurate. Or has it to be changed due to changes in the situation in which it is used? See the image below.
