Knowledge identification

When we have a good understanding of the work process, the next step is to identify the knowledge we have to focus on. The decision is normally made together with the company management.
A company or in general an organization delivers a product or a service. Many work processes with people working together will eventually lead to the product or service. It is important to determine the scope of the work process and the knowledge related to it when determining the focus. One or more discussions with management of the company or organization are needed to define the scope before continuing with this step.

In the example Collage of knowledge "Determining the quality of aluminium oxide layer of aluminium foil" the scope is (only) on a quality check on aluminium foil. It is a "small" step in the production process. But now the knowledge conversions can be examined and the explicit and tacit knowledge can be put in the collage of knowledge.
